Following a feasibility study for this 55-acre estate on the banks of the River Allen and Shirley
Wright's report on the abandoned ancient water meadows we designed
the gardens and landscape. The design includes a new sweeping approach
to the house with gardens surrounding the house linking it to the
orchard and the water meadow, We also designed a HaHa in order to
have uninterrupted views across the countryside. Features include
a series of new sunken and terraced gardens, a bold earth sculpture,
a swimming pool garden and a small kitchen and cutting garden. In
restoring the water meadows, we worked in conjunction with the National
Rivers Authority, restoring the banks, undertaking extensive tree
planting, introducing a circulation route and carefully managing the
wildlife and wetland areas. We also designed several bridges throughout
the gardens. |
