Implementation of this garden started in 1986 . Our masterplan for the gardens of this 40-acre historic National Trust property was developed over a period of 12 years. Following historical research we designed a new approach to the house, the gardens surrounding it, a new herb garden, a sunken garden, an astrological topiary and a 130 meter long serpentine walk leading to an existing pond, which was replanted. We also designed various wild flower meadows and a 1.3 acre vegetable garden and a 110 meter herbaceous borders called the Madeira Walk. Over this 12 year period we undertook an on going programme of visits which developed into a long term management and maintenance plan to monitor the progress of the garden and the annual replanting of features such as the Dutch Garden.
