Arabella Lennox-Boyd was born and raised in Rome but subsequently settled in England and has been a Landscape Designer for the past forty years. She studied Landscape Architecture at Greenwich University and in 2003 was awarded an Honorary Doctorate for her outstanding contribution to Landscape Design and Architecture. She has a thriving practice in central London and has undertaken over the years, well over 400 commissions, ranging from small town gardens to large, historical, formal country landscapes.
Arabella's practice has worked all over the world. Projects in the UK range from large country estates such as Eaton Hall, Cheshire or the National Trust Gardens at Ascot House to contemporary roof gardens such as Number One Poultry, a well-known commercial building in the heart of the City of London. She has designed 6 Gold Medal winning Chelsea Flower Show gardens including Best Garden Award in 1998 and along with her team has undertaken many other competitions and charitable works such as the design for the Maggie's Centre, Dundee and promotional projects such as her recent design for County Life Magazine's 'Dream Acres'.
Projects overseas are equally wide ranging from small urban gardens to large seaside villas or country estates, a commercial roof garden in Hong Kong to a secret retreat in Paris. The practice has worked in France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Mexico, Barbados, USA and Canada giving Arabella and her team a unique expertise across many climate zones.
Arabella Lennox-Boyd’s public appointments in landscape and horticulture are numerous: she served as a Trustee of Kew Gardens for nine years and was a member of The Historic Parks and Gardens Panel of English Heritage. Currently, she is member of the International Dendrology Society and a trustee of the Castle Howard Arboretum Trust. A member of the Royal Horticultural Society's Floral B Committee, a patron of both The Painshill Park Trust and the Martin McLaren Horticultural Scholarship. She was awarded an Honoray Doctor of Design (Hon DDes) by the University of Greenwich and the prestigious 'Premio Firenze Donna' prize in Italy for her outstanding achievements as a landscape designer and business woman and has recently been awarded the RHS Veitch Memorial Medal for For the recognition of her outstanding work within horticulture.
She has also written three books: Traditional English Gardens (1989); Private Gardens of London (1993); and in May 2002 Designing Gardens and lectures on her work in the UK, France, Italy and the USA.
